How it works

Set up in a minute. Keep control the whole time.

There is no sign-up form and no waiting on an approval. You create a wallet, secure it with a passkey, and start transacting.

  1. Create your wallet

    Duality generates your keys on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no email or password to register.

  2. Sign in with a passkey

    Your fingerprint or face becomes your key, saved to your Google or Apple account. A 12-word recovery phrase is one tap away under Advanced.

  3. Receive and send

    Get a Lightning address, receive by QR or NFC, and send to any Lightning invoice or address in seconds.

  4. Hold how you like

    Keep value in Bitcoin, or move some into a steady Digital Cash balance. Both remain fully in your custody.

Self-custody only means something if the software respects it. Here is how Duality is put together, and how to reach us if you find a problem.

Keys never leave your device

Your recovery phrase and wallet keys are stored in operating-system secure storage, such as iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore. Duality does not custody funds and never receives your recovery phrase.

No account to breach

There is no email, password, or server-side profile. With no central account and no custodial balance, there is nothing for an attacker to unlock on our side.

Minimal, optional infrastructure

Optional features like payment notifications and Lightning addresses use a small Duality-operated service. It never handles your keys, recovery phrase, or full balance. What it does process is set out in the privacy policy.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Duality custodial?

No. Duality is self-custodial. Your keys are generated and stored on your device, and only you can authorise a payment. Duality cannot spend, freeze, or recover your funds on your behalf.

What are the two pockets?

Bitcoin is your pocket to hold, in real bitcoin. Digital Cash is a steady, US-dollar-denominated pocket to spend. Both are self-custodial, and you can move value between them in the app.

What is Spark?

Spark is a bitcoin layer 2 that enables fast, low-cost payments while keeping value denominated in bitcoin. Duality connects to Spark through the Breez SDK, so payments settle in seconds rather than waiting for base-chain confirmations.

Do I have to write down a seed phrase?

No. Duality defaults to a passkey, your fingerprint or face, with nothing to write down. A 12-word recovery phrase is still available under Advanced if you want it.

What happens if I lose my phone?

You restore your wallet on a new device using your passkey or your recovery phrase. Your passkey recovers your wallet as long as you can sign in to your Google or Apple account. Because Duality never holds your keys, keeping your recovery method safe is essential. If it is lost, the funds cannot be recovered by anyone.

Is Digital Cash a bank account?

No. It is an optional way to hold US-dollar-denominated value using token and conversion features provided through Spark. It stays self-custodial. It is not a bank account, a deposit, or an insured product, and its value or availability can change.

How do I get a Lightning address?

Claim a username inside the app to receive at you@dualitywallet.money. Anyone using any Lightning wallet can then pay you at that address.

Does Duality track me?

No. There are no analytics or advertising SDKs in the app, and no trackers, cookies, or third-party scripts on this website. The privacy policy describes the limited operational data used by optional features.

Who builds Duality

Duality is built and operated by Duality Wallet Pty Ltd, a company registered in Australia. We build self-custodial bitcoin software and the minimal infrastructure that supports it.

We do not custody customer funds, run an exchange, or take deposits. The company maintains the app, the Lightning-address service, and payment notifications, and is the point of contact for privacy, security, and legal questions. Duality plans to publish its source code as the project matures.
